Tribes and Character Counts

In order to maximize learning and positive social interactions, myself and the students of Room 17 will be following the Tribes Agreements.

"The mission of Tribes Is to assure the healthy development of every child so that each has the knowledge, skills, and resiliency to be successful in a rapidly changing world."
Jeanne Gibbs, Tribes:  A New Way of Learning and Being Together

Attentive Listening=When we are being an "Attentive Listener", we look at the speaker and really think about what the speaker is saying.  We listen carefully to the speaker's ideas, opinions, and feelings.  If we don't understand something that has been said; we ask for clarification.  It's okay to disagree with the speaker but we state our disagreement respectfully.

Appreciations/No Put Downs=We treat everyone with kindness and notice and acknowledge verbally the special talents and contributions of others.  We will avoid being unkind to others.  We will not name call or make negative comments and we will avoid gestures and behaviors that hurt others.

Right to Pass=We have the right to not participate in non-academic group activities.  If students choose to pass they will be quiet observers.  Students that opt to use their "Right to Pass" will be given the opportunity to participate in the group if they decide to contribute.  Even if a student decides to pass they are still responsible for the content of the activity.

Mutual Respect=We will recognize, value, and respect the uniqueness of every person.  We celebrate differences and offer positive feedback to individuals that encourages growth.
