Dear Bighorn Parents,

Here we are in May!!  We are winding down with only 12 days left of school.  This year is quickly coming to an end, but there is still work to be done.

We have completed instruction in all standards in 2nd grade math.  For the remainder of the year, we will be reviewing standards in 2nd grade math.  This week we will identify 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes, partitioning 2 dimensional shapes, and reviewing measurement with metric and customary units.  Since these are review standards, some of the IXL objectives will be repeats.  Please have your student work on the assigned objectives for 15 minutes.

Here’s the homework for the week...
Monday
IXL U.6 Identify Shapes Traced from Solids
Tuesday
IXL U.8 Shapes of Everyday Objects Part 2
Wednesday
IXL S.9 Which Metric Unit of Length is Appropriate?
Thursday
IXL S.3  Which Customary Unit of Length is Appropriate?

Projects
Last week in projects students dissected a tulip and worked on identifying parts that included stamen, anther, filament, pistil, stigma, style, and ovary.  They had a blast checking out all the parts we have read, discussed, and drawn.   Students also started creating their plant model.  This work will continue this week.

It’s hard to believe that we are down to the last few weeks as a second grade class.  The next 3 weeks will go very fast.  While Miss Garcia and myself will be sad to see our second graders get ready for third grade, we will look back with many fond memories.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our Moms!!  We hope that you have a special day filled with joy and love!!

Sincerely,
Anne Bloomfield
and

Miss Garcia
